- Start tracking! (login details will be emailed to you)
| 📍 | Real-Time GPS Tracking Track your vehicle with high-frequency updates every 10–30 seconds while it is in motion. View live location, routes, stops, and trip history instantly through the Overwatch Tracking platform on mobile or desktop. |
| 📡 | Telstra 4G LTE-M Network The PLX5 connects to the Telstra Cat-M1 network, providing reliable coverage across metropolitan and regional Australia. This network technology is designed for IoT tracking devices and offers stronger signal stability than many standard trackers. |
| 🔋 | Smart Sleep Mode When your vehicle remains stationary for more than 5 minutes, the tracker automatically enters a low-power sleep mode. This protects your vehicle battery while keeping your trip history clean and easy to review. |
| ⚡ | Backup Battery Protection If the main vehicle battery is disconnected or tampered with, the built-in 170mAh backup battery immediately takes over. This provides up to 2 hours of continued GPS tracking, allowing you time to receive alerts and locate the vehicle. |
| 🗺️ | 90-Day Route History Access a detailed log of every trip, stop, and route taken over the last 90 days. This makes it easy to review driving activity, verify routes, or investigate unexpected vehicle movement. |
| 🚧 | Geofencing & Boundary Alerts Create custom virtual boundaries around important locations such as job sites, warehouses, or home addresses. You’ll receive instant notifications whenever your tracker enters or exits these zones. |
| 🎯 | High-Precision Location Advanced GNSS satellite positioning provides location accuracy within approximately 5 metres of the tracker. This allows you to pinpoint the exact position of your vehicle or asset in real time. |
| 🚨 | Instant Security Alerts Receive real-time notifications for movement detection, power disconnection, speed violations, or geofence breaches. Alerts are sent instantly to your phone via push notifications or displayed within the web platform. |
| 🔌 | Hardwired Installation & Wide Voltage Support The PLX5 connects directly to your vehicle’s power supply for permanent, maintenance-free tracking without the need for battery recharging. Its wide 9V–36V input range supports cars, trucks, machinery, and commercial vehicles, making it ideal for fleet installations and heavy equipment. |

FAQs (Account & Plans)
What is the difference between your 4G Cat-M1 and standard 4G?
Standard 4G is designed for high-speed mobile data like streaming, apps, and browsing. Cat-M1 (LTE-M) is built specifically for IoT devices like GPS trackers, offering more reliable connectivity in challenging environments. It also delivers improved performance in rural and low-signal areas compared to standard mobile networks.
How do I activate my tracker and when does the subscription start?
Unlike other retailers who force you to pay for a subscription the moment you buy the hardware, Overwatch gives you full control—your service only begins when you are ready.
Once your device arrives, simply visit our Pricing Page and choose your preferred subscription plan. Once you’ve signed up, our team remotely activates the tracker and configures your device on our server. You will receive an email with your login credentials, usually within 24 business hours.
You don’t need to configure any technical settings yourself. This is all handled by us to make the process as seamless as possible.
Why can’t I just use my own Aldi, Optus, or Boost SIM card?
Standard consumer SIMs are often blocked by carriers when used for "Machine-to-Machine" (M2M) tracking, which can lead to your device being disconnected without warning. We use Enterprise-grade Telstra IoT SIMs specifically authorised for this hardware to ensure 24/7 connectivity. Additionally, in many cases, using your own SIM is more expensive; once you factor in the "Long Life" credits or high data-overage rates of consumer plans, our all-in-one subscription is the more cost-effective choice.
Can I use the tracking platform on both my computer and phone?
Yes. Your subscription includes full access to our iOS and Android mobile apps for tracking on the go, as well as a powerful web-based dashboard for your desktop. This allows you to run detailed reports and view historical data on a larger screen.
Will my insurance premium go down if I install an Overwatch tracker?
Many Australian insurers offer discounts (sometimes up to 15–20%) for vehicles fitted with a hardwired GPS tracker. Because the theft recovery rate is so high, insurers view it as a major risk reduction. We recommend checking with your provider for their "Theft Recovery Device" discount.
Is my location data private and secure?
Privacy is our priority. We use Enterprise-grade encryption, and we never view or share your data unless you give us express permission for support purposes. Your data is stored on secure servers with strict access controls.
What if I have vehicles in different states across Australia?
Our platform handles this automatically. You can set individual time zones for each tracker in your account (e.g., AEST for your Sydney fleet and AWST for Perth), so your trip reports are always 100% accurate.
How many vehicles can I add to a single account?
There is no limit. You can start with one car and scale up to a fleet of 50+ as your business grows. You can name each vehicle, set custom icons, and even create "Sub-Accounts" if you want staff or managers to only see specific groups of vehicles.
FAQs (PLX5)
Should I install it myself or hire an auto-electrician?
While it only requires a basic 2-wire (Positive/Negative) connection, we recommend an auto-electrician. They can ensure the device is hidden "covertly" behind the dash and wired into a permanent power source that a thief cannot easily find or unplug. For more information on the setup and wiring, please check our setup page.
Will hardwiring a tracker void my new car warranty?
Under Australian Consumer Law, a dealer cannot "blanket void" your entire vehicle warranty just because you installed an aftermarket accessory like a GPS tracker. The only way a warranty claim can be rejected is if the dealer can prove the tracker (or its installation) directly caused the specific fault you are claiming for.
This is why we recommend using a qualified auto-electrician—to ensure the install is professional, fused, and safely integrated with your vehicle's electronics.
Why does my tracker show "Offline" after I just installed it?
New trackers require a "First Fix" to begin reporting. This is the initial process where the device downloads satellite data to calibrate its location for the first time. Because GPS signals cannot penetrate metal roofs or thick concrete, you must drive the vehicle in an open area for 5–10 minutes.
Once the device achieves this first satellite lock, it will register on the Telstra network and stay "Online" permanently, even when parked.
Will the PLX5 drain my car battery if I don't drive for a week?
No. The PLX5 uses Smart Sleep Technology. After 5 minutes of stillness, it enters a low-power state. It "wakes up" instantly the moment its internal sensor detects vibration or movement, preserving your vehicle's starter battery.
Where is the best place to hide it for a good signal?
Plastic, glass, and leather do not block GPS signals, but thick metal can. The best spot is high under the dashboard with the LED side facing the sky. Avoid placing it directly under the engine hood or inside a metal toolbox, as this may limit the signal.
What do the LED lights on the side of the device mean?
The Blue light shows system status, Green shows GPS satellite lock, and Red indicates power. Once you have a solid connection, these lights typically stay solid. You can cover them with electrical tape after installation for a completely covert "blackout" look if required.
Is it legal to track my employees' vehicles in Australia?
Yes, provided you follow state-specific surveillance laws. Generally, this involves providing written notice (often 14 days) and having a legitimate business reason for tracking. For a full breakdown of the rules in your state, read our guide on Australian GPS Tracking Legislation.
Does the PLX5 work in 24V trucks or just 12V cars?
The PLX5 is universal. It supports a wide voltage range from 9V to 36V DC, making it a perfect fit for motorcycles, passenger cars, vans, heavy trucks, and even earthmoving machinery.
What happens if I sell my vehicle or want to move the tracker?
You have two easy options. You can have an auto-electrician move the tracker to your new vehicle in about 30 minutes; once moved, you simply update the vehicle name in your dashboard and continue tracking.
Alternatively, you can leave the tracker in the car as a premium security feature for the new owner. If you choose this, just email us to cancel your subscription and the device will go dormant. If the new owner wants to use it, they can contact us to activate their own plan—we will then securely delete your old account data and update the device to their details, ensuring a clean and private handover for both parties.
