The Overwatch PLX8 is a high-performance GPS tracker designed for instant vehicle visibility. By plugging it directly into your vehicle’s OBD2 port (standard in almost every car made since 2006), this discreet tracker provides accurate live location data without the need for tools, wiring, or auto-electricians.
| The All-In-One Tracking Solution Traditional GPS tracking can be a headache. We’ve made it simple:
|
HOW IT WORKS:
- Buy your tracker
- Plug it into your car
- Sign up for a plan when you are ready
- Start tracking! (login details will be emailed to you)
| 🔌 | Instant Plug-and-Play Installation No tools or wiring required. Simply plug the PLX8 into your vehicle’s OBD2 port (typically located under the steering wheel) and start tracking immediately. Perfect for leased vehicles or those who want a 30-second setup. |
| 📡 | Telstra 4G LTE-M Network The PLX8 connects to the Telstra Cat-M1 network, providing reliable coverage across metropolitan and regional Australia. This enterprise-grade IoT network offers superior signal stability than standard trackers. |
| 🔋 | Instant Visibility & Smart Efficiency Every route, stop, and journey is recorded and stored on our secure servers for up to 90 days, giving you complete visibility whenever you need it. To protect your vehicle battery, the PLX8 features Smart Sleep Mode, which automatically switches the device to a low-power state when the vehicle is stationary. This ensures your playback history remains clean and easy to follow while ensuring your vehicle’s battery stays healthy. |
| 🚨 | Tamper-Proof Security & Backup Power Security is built into the PLX8. Because it connects directly to the OBD2 port, the tracker can detect the moment it loses power. If the device is unplugged or the vehicle battery is disconnected, the internal 170mAh backup battery keeps the tracker running for several minutes and can send an Unplug Alert to your phone if this feature is enabled. |
| 🗺️ | 90-Day Route History Access a detailed log of every trip, stop, and route taken over the last 90 days. This makes it easy to review driving activity, verify routes, or investigate unexpected vehicle movement. |
| 🚧 | Geofencing & Boundary Alerts Create custom virtual boundaries around important locations such as job sites, warehouses, or home addresses. You’ll receive instant notifications whenever your tracker enters or exits these zones. |
| 🎯 | High-Precision Location Advanced GNSS satellite positioning provides location accuracy within approximately 5 metres of the tracker. This allows you to pinpoint the exact position of your vehicle or asset in real time. |
| ⚠️ | Speed Limit Warnings Receive instant alerts if the PLX8 exceeds your pre-set speed threshold. Perfect for monitoring driver safety and ensuring fleet compliance across your operations. |
| 📱 | Advanced Security Notifications Stay informed with real-time push notifications for unauthorised movement, power disconnection, or geofence breaches, all managed through our intuitive platform. |

FAQs (Account & Plans)
What is the difference between your 4G Cat-M1 and standard 4G?
Standard 4G is designed for high-speed mobile data like streaming, apps, and browsing. Cat-M1 (LTE-M) is built specifically for IoT devices like GPS trackers, offering more reliable connectivity in challenging environments. It also delivers improved performance in rural and low-signal areas compared to standard mobile networks.
How do I activate my tracker and when does the subscription start?
Unlike other retailers who force you to pay for a subscription the moment you buy the hardware, Overwatch gives you full control—your service only begins when you are ready.
Once your device arrives, simply visit our Pricing Page and choose your preferred subscription plan. Once you’ve signed up, our team remotely activates the tracker and configures your device on our server. You will receive an email with your login credentials, usually within 24 business hours.
You don’t need to configure any technical settings yourself. This is all handled by us to make the process as seamless as possible.
Why can’t I just use my own Aldi, Optus, or Boost SIM card?
Standard consumer SIMs are often blocked by carriers when used for "Machine-to-Machine" (M2M) tracking, which can lead to your device being disconnected without warning. We use Enterprise-grade Telstra IoT SIMs specifically authorised for this hardware to ensure 24/7 connectivity. Additionally, in many cases, using your own SIM is more expensive; once you factor in the "Long Life" credits or high data-overage rates of consumer plans, our all-in-one subscription is the more cost-effective choice.
Can I use the tracking platform on both my computer and phone?
Yes. Your subscription includes full access to our iOS and Android mobile apps for tracking on the go, as well as a powerful web-based dashboard for your desktop. This allows you to run detailed reports and view historical data on a larger screen.
Will my insurance premium go down if I install an Overwatch tracker?
Many Australian insurers offer discounts (sometimes up to 15–20%) for vehicles fitted with a hardwired GPS tracker. Because the theft recovery rate is so high, insurers view it as a major risk reduction. We recommend checking with your provider for their "Theft Recovery Device" discount.
Is my location data private and secure?
Privacy is our priority. We use Enterprise-grade encryption, and we never view or share your data unless you give us express permission for support purposes. Your data is stored on secure servers with strict access controls.
What if I have vehicles in different states across Australia?
Our platform handles this automatically. You can set individual time zones for each tracker in your account (e.g., AEST for your Sydney fleet and AWST for Perth), so your trip reports are always 100% accurate.
How many vehicles can I add to a single account?
There is no limit. You can start with one car and scale up to a fleet of 50+ as your business grows. You can name each vehicle, set custom icons, and even create "Sub-Accounts" if you want staff or managers to only see specific groups of vehicles.
FAQs (PLX8)
Where is my OBD2 port located?
In most vehicles manufactured after 2006, the OBD2 port is located within 60cm of the steering wheel. It is typically found under the dashboard on the driver’s side, sometimes behind a small plastic removable panel.

How do I enable the "Unplug Alert" feature?
For security reasons, this alert is not on by default. You can easily enable it through the Overwatch Tracking platform or mobile app under the "Events" or "Notifications" settings. Once toggled on, you will receive an instant push notification if the device is removed from the port.
Can I easily move the PLX8 between different vehicles?
Yes. One of the primary benefits of the PLX8 is portability. You can unplug it from one vehicle and plug it into another at any time. The tracking platform will continue to record data seamlessly, though we recommend naming the device on the platform based on the vehicle it is currently securing.
Will the PLX8 drain my car battery if I don't drive for a while?
No. The PLX8 features an intelligent Smart Sleep Mode. If the vehicle is stationary for more than 5 minutes, the tracker enters a low-power state. It only "wakes up" when it detects movement or ignition, ensuring your vehicle battery remains protected.
Does it work with 24V trucks or just 12V cars?
The PLX8 is compatible with both 12V and 24V systems. It is designed to work with standard OBD2 ports found in passenger cars, utes, and light commercial vehicles, as well as many modern heavy vehicles.
Does the PLX8 interfere with my car’s electronics?
No. The PLX8 is a "read-only" device in terms of power. it draws a tiny amount of current to operate but does not send signals back into your vehicle's ECU or interfere with standard engine management systems.
Is it legal to track my employees' vehicles in Australia?
Yes, provided you follow state-specific surveillance laws. Generally, this involves providing written notice (often 14 days) and having a legitimate business reason for tracking. For a full breakdown of the rules in your state, read our guide on Australian GPS Tracking Legislation.
What happens if I sell my vehicle or want to move the tracker?
You have two easy options. You can have an auto-electrician move the tracker to your new vehicle in about 30 minutes; once moved, you simply update the vehicle name in your dashboard and continue tracking.
Alternatively, you can leave the tracker in the car as a premium security feature for the new owner. If you choose this, just email us to cancel your subscription and the device will go dormant. If the new owner wants to use it, they can contact us to activate their own plan—we will then securely delete your old account data and update the device to their details, ensuring a clean and private handover for both parties.
